Guidance on Lesson Requirements
The chart above is a general guide. Individual learning needs may vary, and some pupils may require more or fewer hours than the packages listed.
According to DVSA research, an average 17-year-old learner with no prior driving experience typically requires:
-
40 hours of professional driving lessons
-
20 hours of additional private practice
These figures assume:
-
Regular continuity of lessons (at least 2 hours per week)
-
No previous driving experience
-
Standard learner progress and commitment
By following a structured programme with consistent lessons, pupils are more likely to build confidence quickly and achieve test readiness efficiently.
